I've got a collection of home video on compact VHS that I wanted to record and share with the family on YouTube. Didn't want to spend a lot so I figured I'd try this solution. Works great!! Very simple to use. Plugged in the audio and video from my VHS-C camcorder into the unit, plugged the unit into my PC with the USB and line in audio jack, installed the drivers (I'll get to that), installed the included Cyberlink PowerDirector software, and was up and running in minutes. A couple of things to note that other reviewers have probably pointed out. This unit arrived with two discs, one with drivers and one with the Cyberlink software.

I didn't even touch the driver disc. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and I used the DVD Maker USB 2.0 drivers from[.] They won't install unless it detects the device, so plug the device in and let Windows find it. Then run the setup file in this driver package you downloaded. If you're not sure if setup succeeded you should be able to look in Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers, and see an entry called 'USB 2860 Device'. Install the included Cyberlink PowerDirector. Make sure your camcorder (or whatever source you're using) is connected and powered on, Launch Director, go to the capture tab, and start your video.

Totally not surprised, since these are old tapes from the late 90s and early 2000s. Hasn't happened enough that it's a problem, and when it does happen I just hit record again and it usually starts. The only other issue is that it doesn't appear to keep up when I'm rewinding/fast forwarding thru my videos. The video on screen either pauses or is jerky, but this isn't a big deal because I can look thru the viewfinder on the camera when I'm skipping thru video to find where I want to start recording.
